Day 1: Arriving in Chengdu
As the capital city of Sichuan Province, Chengdu has an incredibly diverse range of accommodation options. After arriving at Chengdu 东极岛 旅游 Shuangliu International Airport, make your way to your chosen accommodation and settle in. If you enjoy a lively atmosphere, the area around Chunxi Road is perfect for you. For a more peaceful and traditional feel, try the Kuanzhai Alley and Jinli Street areas.
Day 2: Exploring the City Center
Beginning with a visit to People's Park is a great way to get acquainted with the city. This park is a popular attraction for both locals and tourists, thanks to its beautiful landscaped gardens and relaxing atmosphere. Near the park is the Kuanzhai Alley, a renovated area showcasing traditional Chengdu architecture. Next, head over to the Wenshu Yuan Monastery, a beautiful and iconic Buddhist temple that features traditional Chinese architecture.
Day 3: Pandas, Hot Pot and Opera
A visit to the Chengdu 徐闻旅游 Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is definitely a must-do activity when in the city. You will have the opportunity to see adorable pandas, and can even participate in volunteer programs! After this, head on over to a famous hot pot restaurant for a delicious meal. Finally, finish your evening with Sichuan opera, which is characterized by face-changing, fiery stick displays, and hand puppet shows.
Day 4: Day Trip to Leshan Grand Buddha
The Leshan Giant Buddha is the largest stone Buddha statue in the world and definitely worth a visit. Travel by bus or hire a taxi to get there. Once arrived, you can take a boat tour around the Buddha statue, or hike the stone steps to see it up close. Explore the surrounding temples and museums as well if time allows.
Day 5: Back to City for Food and Shopping
After a day trip, you might want to take it easy in the city center. Sample Sichuan cuisine at one of many famous restaurants, like the "Tianfu Square" or "Shu Zhi Yu." Chengdu is also known for its spicy hotpots, like the "Little Dragon King." Shopping options are plentiful, too. Chunxi Road is the place to go for luxury shopping, while Jinli Street is more focused on handicrafts and souvenirs.
Day 6: Day Trip to Qingcheng Mountain
The Taoist holy mountain of Qingcheng Mountain is only a short distance from Chengdu, making it an ideal day trip destination. Hiking along the mountain’s pathways features incredible natural scenery. The cable car ride up to the summit is a highlight to enjoy an amazing panoramic view.
Day 7: Relaxing at a Hot Spring
After several days of hiking and sightseeing, it is time to just take a day to relax. Chengdu has numerous hot springs, such as Nanjing Hot Springs Resort and Huashuiwan Resort, that provide public and private pools. It is perfect for rejuvenating and recharging your mind and body.
Day 8: Cultural Sites at Wuhou Temple and Jinsha Site Museum
Chengdu is full of historical sites and relics. The Wuhou Temple is the resting place of the famous military strategist Zhuge Liang and his tomb. Jinsha Site Museum is a significant and fascinating archaeological site dating back more than 3,000 years.
Day 9: Visit Dujiangyan City
Dujiangyan City, an ancient town located at the foot of Mount Qingcheng, is another popular day trip destination from Chengdu. The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Besides enjoying the scenic beauty and fresh air, you can walk around the streets and try local delicacies.
Day 10: Final Day of Chengdu Trip
Before saying goodbye to Chengdu, take a stroll through the Jinli Old Street, an ancient commercial street featuring bars, teahouses, and snack stands. Finally, round out your trip by visiting the Elephant Gallery, a contemporary art museum featuring exhibitions by Chinese and foreign artists.
